Nursery Guidelines

The more organized our nursery is, the more secure your child will feel. As parents, you can help the nursery staff by observing the following guidelines...

  • When entering the nursery reception area, complete the attendance sheet indicating where you will be and any special instructions. Write your child's name and paging number on a name tag, and place the name tag on your child's back. You will receive a numbered identification card printed with your paging number. Please be sure to return the identification card to the nursery when you come for your child. This will insure that your card will be there for you the following week.

  • Label your child's diaper bag, bottles, pacifiers and other belongings with your child's name.

  • Your baby may cry for a short time when you leave, but this usually doesn't last more than a few minutes. Sometimes a child may also be upset when parents are seen picking up other children. This is a normal reaction and should not worry you. Regular, weekly attendance will help your baby feel at ease with us.

  • For security and safety reasons, only nursery staff and babies should enter the nursery. Other adults and children are asked to remain outside. Nursing moms may come into the nursery to feed their babies after checking with a staff member.

  • Please observe the nursery age limits. The nursery is not the appropriate place for older children.

  • Crackers and drinks of water are provided for children over 1 year old. The nursery staff do not give other food to the children.

  • Provide an adequate supply of diapers and a change of clothes (for infants.) If your child is being potty trained, please tell a staff member and provide a change of underwear and clothes.

  • Pick up your child promptly after the service, (nursery staff enjoy visiting too.) Please do not send children under 14 to pick up your child.

  • Security blankets or stuffed animals that comfort your child may be brought to the nursery. All other toys should be left at home.

  • Nursery use should be arranged through the Child Care Coordinator. The nursery is scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis unless otherwise directed by the pastoral staff.
