On the first Wednesday night of each month our Missions Leadership Team gathers together to discuss, support and pray for the mission efforts of our local church. Let me tell you why I so much enjoy leading this team.  Last night we read and prayed through the Book of Acts, Chapter 1:1-8.  Our devotional study and the meeting to follow reminded me of a quote I recently ran across from John Wesley, ”Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all ways you can, in all places you can, at all times you can, to all people you can, as long as ever you can.” I think that is what I love about this team. We don’t meet to just create slick, glossy fundraising letters or to write and maintain a cool missions policy handbook.  This team is about a focus to mobilize our church family towards a mission mindset. We care about a passionate obedience to the command of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ to boldly share the Gospel and make disciples; following God’s leading whether locally, regionally, nationally or internationally. This last statement is the Scriptural basis for our MLT team and our reason to exist (Matthew 28:18-20 and Acts 1:8.)

Last night we heard from a member of our MLT team. She shared about how God has been moving in her heart for these past years and is now, she believes, calling her to the mission field. At this time it, appears that God is calling her to North Africa to reach a lost people where less than 1% of the population know about the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  She has made initial steps to connect with Pioneers USA. They are a missions agency that seeks to glorify God among those who are physically isolated from the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She is working with Pioneers and is committed to a partnership with Highland Park. We realize, as a team, that her call is in the early stages and a need to keep her in prayer is crucial. We invite our church to pray with us for this team member.

We also heard an update from one member about his family’s calling to the mission field to an unreached people group in Central Asia.  Lord willing, their family will be heading out this fall. They are at 75% of their financial commitment need and are planning to head out for four weeks of training this August. They have made major changes in their lives to prepare themselves for “mission ready” status. This couple has been an important part of our Missions Leadership Team, leading in communication with the missionaries we support as a church. Please join the Elders and Missions Leadership Team in praying for the this family.

The team heard and celebrated the great work that Jonathan and Christine Niles had at their Royal Family KIDS Camp last week. Bob Hackett, MLT member and staff member for Royal Family KIDS Camp, reported that 38 kids experienced a gospel focus at camp this past week. There was a high level of excitement for what God had done this year through the many Royal Family camp, registration, welcome home and prayer team volunteers. The team praised God for His work in the lives of these kids. There were many other items of prayer and discussion at last night’s meeting. They included prayer for each of the missionaries supported by Highland Park Church. Cathy and Erik Weinmeister, also members of MLT, reported on prayer requests made by seven mission families.  The team spent the majority of our time together to lift up our missionaries in prayer.

See why I love this team?   Want to know more about the Missions Team; our focus and work? Perhaps you would like to know how to join us.  We meet each month on the first Wednesday evening. Better yet, give me a call and let me share with you the great work God is doing here. I would love to hear from you!

Pastor Kevin Bennett
