Parents

  • "Teens will follow your footsteps more easily than they will follow your advice".
  • "You cannot lift your children to a higher level than that on which you live yourself".
  • "It is unreasonable to expect a child to listen to your advice and ignore your example".

Proverbs 22:6. "Train up a child" means more than to teach, and includes everything that pertains to the proper development of the child, especially in its moral and spiritual nature.-International Standard Bible Encyclopedia.

This is your calling as a parent...and just as you train your kids how to brush their teeth, how to play a sport, how to develop good study habits…the word “train” in this verse implies that at least the same, if not more importance should be placed on the spiritual training of our kids. This is your “GOD–GIVEN” mission.

Here is what the ROCK SOLID student ministry offers to you and your teens:
  • Support – We know your mission – you can do it in the Lord’s strength – we are behind you and desire to reinforce many of the truths you are trying to teach at home.
  • Resources – We know you can feel overwhelmed with the changes in your teen and their culture. Need help sorting through it...ask and we will do our best to help you with music, movies, technology, and relationships.
  • Shepherding – We know that there are three major groups of teens, the spiritually lost, the spiritually convinced, and the spiritually committed. With that in mind, we provide programs that focus on meeting the specific needs of each group.

FAQs

Are there any fees for my teen to be involved in SOLID ROCK?
The general answer is "no". Most of the programming we do to serve you and your teen are free of charge. Exceptions to this would include most special events including: Mission trips, Ski trips, Fun Events, Concerts and in some cases reading and workbook material.

Is there anything I need to provide as a parent?
"Yes" Please take a few minutes to fill out our Parental Consent Form. This completed form is put on file for your teen and is required for any Highland Park sponsored event. Optional: We have a group of parents who help us by providing treats on a rotational basis. If you would like to serve in this way please let Pastor Brant know at 402-910-2492.

What if my teen is in Middle School (6th Grade) – why don’t you have them included in your Sunday night ministry?
Sixth grade students are encouraged to participate in our Wednesday night program called AWANA. This program aims to build a solid biblical foundation through the presentation of the gospel and biblical memorization. Another option for sixth grade students involvement is to attend our Sunday Bible School class from 10:00 – 10:45 a.m.

When does your Sunday night programming start this fall?
Our kick-off event is scheduled for Sunday, September 7th. SOLID for Jr. High runs from 6:00 to 7:15 p.m. and ROCK for Sr. High runs from 7:30 – 9:00 p.m. in the youth room at Highland Park Church (4115 38th Street).

Who do I call with questions concerning the youth program or if I want to become part of the SOLID ROCK student ministry team?
Call Pastor Brant Taylor at 402-910-2492 or email him at btaylor@highlandparkministries.org
